39th Anniversary Tournament
Greetings fellow military retiree golfers! We hope and pray that this newsletter finds you in good health and spirits. We’re proud that we continued to have our tournament in 2020 and 2021 throughout the COVID period, and we truly appreciate your support and participation. Hopefully COVID will be behind us by next year’s tournament, but we’ll still plan to have provisions if called for.
Since our tournament last June, the committee has met 4 times in planning for the 2022 NRMGC. The tournament will continue with the same Captain’s choice venue and morning rounds on great golf courses, but we’re incorporating online registration and payment on our new website: https://www.nrmgc.com.
We also have a new Resort sponsor- Myrtle Beach’s locally owned Brittain Resorts. You can use our NRMGC website to quickly and easily reserve one of Brittain’s five 5 different Resort packages…great Resorts at significant cost savings for our participants:)
Due to higher costs our registration fee will go up but remains the best deal by far of all the large tournaments in the Myrtle Beach area: $365 for men and $320 for women. We have determined the initial courses for play, picked out the shirts and other stuff for the goodie bag and we think you’ll really like the courses and the goodies. As always, you’ll have the opportunity to select to attend the world famous Alabama Theater “One” show and we’ll continue to have daily and special drawings, a registration day raffle, and closest to the pin prizes.
2022 COURSES: At this time, we have Myrtle Beach National North, South and West, Myrtlewood Pine Hills and Palmetto, Burning Ridge, and Wild Wing scheduled for play based on our estimated participation. As before, FGI has agreed to give us as many courses as we need to accommodate our number of players, so that list of courses could grow if we have higher numbers sign up…so please continue to recruit your retired golf buddies to join or return! We’ll continue with 0800 start times for men, but WOMEN’S START TIMES WILL BE 0830 TO ALLOW FOR COUPLES TO BOTH GET TO COURSES ON TIME. We’ve decided to select courses in close proximity to ease transportation challenges. Note that these courses are close to the beautiful Brittain Resort facilities in Myrtle Beach as well.
DAILY CHALLENGE: For those of you who couldn’t make it to the 2020 or 2021 tournaments, we added our DAILY CHALLENGE to the venue. The players really liked the addition. On each day the team with the best score on each course won a prize which was provided the following morning on the next course in the rotation.
FIRST TIME PLAYERS: If you have the lowest score of the other first time players in your flight after all tournament rounds are complete, you’ll win the new player prize.
We’re going to continue our highly successful new member orientation this year, new winner prizes, beer/soft drink coupons per round per player for post round socializing with fellow players/comrades, competitions during the waiting times for award ceremonies, and of course continued camaraderie on some of the best golf courses around. And for our more experienced players don’t forget that in addition to allowing players over 70 years of age to play from forward tees, we’ll have a “super senior mentors” tee for our players over 80 years young.
We’re sticking with NO MULLIGANS since it was so well received by the participants in November 2020 and June 2021- sped up play and perceived as more fair across the board.
We’re expecting continued increased participation this year, but we still need your help to get the word out and BRING YOUR FELLOW RETIRED MILITARY GOLFING BUDDIES WITH YOU! By far the most successful recruiting comes from your personal, face-to-face testimonies about this great event. And please let your eligible golf buddies know that THERE IS NO WAITING LIST. ALL MILITARY RETIREES AND THEIR SPOUSES WILL GET IN IF THEY APPLY.
Spouses of retired “non-golfing” military retirees are also welcome to play. Recruiters will be rewarded a $20 PGA Tour Superstore gift card for the number of his/her new recruits. The top recruiter gets their 2023 application fee paid. Just make sure your recruits put your name on their application. If they forget, they can get with a committee member and get you the credit you deserve.
