Greetings fellow military retiree golfers! We hope and pray that this newsletter finds you in good health and spirits. We trust you all had a great 4th of July weekend and are staying cool this summer. Remember, STAY HYDRATED!
We had a great tournament this year but did learn some lessons as we transitioned to a new golf management team and host resort. Since the 2022 tournament ended on 4 June, the committee has met twice to discuss lessons learned in 2022 and the way ahead with our 40th Anniversary NRMGC. We have already met once with our Myrtle Beach team (Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce Convention Visitors Bureau, Brittain Resorts, Founders Group International (FGI), and MyrtleBeachgolf) and have another planning session scheduled in August. We are working diligently to provide a banner event for our 40th Anniversary! You can stay up to date, view resort options and even pay on our website: https://www.nrmgc.com.
We had a good turnout this year of about 520 players, but we need your help to get the word out and build that number back to what it used to be. Please let your eligible golf buddies know that THERE IS NO WAITING LIST. ALL MILITARY RETIREES AND THEIR SPOUSES WILL GET IN IF THEY APPLY. Spouses of retired “non-golfing” military retirees are also welcome to play. Recruiters will be rewarded a $20 PGA Tour Superstore gift card for the number of his/her NEW recruits. The top recruiter with 5 or more referrals gets their 2024 application fee paid. Just make sure your recruits put your name on their application. If they forget, have them get with a committee member during the tournament so you can get credit for their referral.
In order to try and get off to a strong start with registrations, we’re offering an early bird registration option through 30 September 2022: same price as 2022-$365 for men and $320 for women. We encourage you to go ahead and register early and take advantage if you’re capable of making plans well in advance. For those of you who aren’t able to register early, we’ll still be offering the best rate in town for this level of golf tournament at $395 for men and $350 for women.
If after visiting our website, you feel the need for direct assistance regarding golf registration please call Robert McKnight directly at (803) 269-3893. Robert has just joined our committee and he will be the primary point of contact for registration management.
If you need direct assistance regarding resort booking, please call Lori at (843) 282-7336. We realize room costs are higher this year everywhere in Myrtle Beach, but Brittain is doing their best to accommodate players’ billeting requests and are providing some of the best rates in the entire Myrtle Beach area…from 30-50% discounts on most of their available rooms. We recently met with Brittain’s VP of Marketing and Sales and he is looking at various options for affordability and making your stay more enjoyable. As an example, they are planning to have a separate check-in just for our players so you won’t have to wait in line with other guests not participating in our tournament. More to follow on all that.
We’re looking to make this 40th Anniversary NRMGC really special celebration. We’re planning to bring back the “Ice Breaker,” introduce a few new golf courses, and come up with another special goodie bag and some other surprises. Again, make your plans early and take advantage of the “early bird” registration fee and discounted resort rates. We’ll provide another update or two before the tournament and are always available to answer your questions: NRMGCtournament@gmail.com.
If you no longer wish to receive emails/mailings regarding the NRMGC, please email us and we’ll remove you from our database.
Thanks so much for your service to our nation and faithful participation in our tournament. May God continue to bless you all and your wonderful families.
Sincerely,
The NRMGC Committee
